KAFO with NEURO VARIO-SWING System Knee Joint and NEURO SWING System Ankle Joint and AFO with NEURO SWING System Ankle Joint
The patient in this success story has suffered from severe leg problems since birth. In infancy, pigeon toes, hip dysplasia and coordination difficulties are already detected, which worsen over the years. As can be seen in the before videos, her gait shows a valgus deformity, internal rotation of the legs and a pes valgus. Then, when she developed knee pain, she was advised to take up horseback riding. This was indeed helpful until she had to give up the hobby after a riding accident. The pain remained and her gait continued to deteriorate. During a hospital stay, she was diagnosed with hereditary spastic paraparesis. She refused Achilles tendon lengthening and botox therapy.
In the past, the patient has been treated with various orthotic treatments. She walked better with sensorimotor insoles, but her gait was not yet physiological. Slopes remained a challenge, and she did not have the necessary safety when standing.
Since 2019, the patient has been treated with system joints from FIOR & GENTZ. On her right leg, she wears a KAFO with a NEURO VARIO-SWING system knee joint and a NEURO SWING system ankle joint. On her left leg, she wears an AFO, also with a NEURO SWING system ankle joint. The video clearly shows that the patient has gained more confidence when standing and walking with her new orthoses and that her gait has improved significantly. Walking on slopes is no longer a problem and the leg pain is getting better and better. She herself says: “Walking is fun! Rather, I'm happy about every step I take. Instead of looking at my feet, I can look straight ahead and trust the orthoses without stumbling.”
