Orthoses in Daily Life
Modern neuro orthoses are custom-made to meet the patient's individual requirements. They help patients to improve or regain their mobility. Combined with physiotherapy and effective stance and gait training, patients with an orthosis can very often get out of their wheelchair and back on their feet. The process from standing to taking the first steps to walking requires a lot of patience and work from the patient. But the result is worth it – taking part in social life, pursuing hobbies or running simple errands are possible again with almost no restrictions. Daily life can be organised independently again.
The Right Footwear
In the case of paralysis, orthoses assume the muscle functions. Particularly in the foot area, where an orthotic joint is located at ankle height, the material of the footwear is therefore subjected to a great deal of strain. Special orthosis shoes not only offer more space thanks to their customisable volume, but are also made from high-quality and particularly hard-wearing materials. The orthosis shoes from FIOR & GENTZ also offer a high wearing comfort.
In addition to the functional properties, the visual appearance also plays a significant role. The modern, appealing design of our shoes increases the acceptance of wearing a device among young and old alike.
Cleaning and Maintenance
As the orthosis usually rests directly on the skin, regular cleaning and maintenance are essential. Detachable inner paddings made of towelling padding material (e.g. xDRY) can easily be washed in the washing machine at 60°C. Orthoses made of carbon fibre and casting resin can also be cleaned with a damp cloth and disinfected in regular intervals. Information on how to clean the mounted system joints properly can be found in the respective instructions for use.
Maintenance
Every day, a lot of strain is put on an orthosis. Different forces are constantly acting on materials and components. Therefore, it is quite normal for mechanically strained parts to wear out. In case of pressure points, unusual noises or discomfort when wearing the orthosis, you should immediately get in touch with your orthopaedic technician regardless of the next maintenance appointment. They know what to do and can usually see whether a screw needs to be tightened or readjusted at first glance.
Stability and safety must be guaranteed at all times. For this reason, we provide a customised maintenance plan for every system joint and every system width. We recommend using the orthosis service passport to ensure complete compliance with the specified maintenance intervals.
