KAFO with NEURO VARIO-SWING System Knee Joint and NEURO SWING System Ankle Joint
The company Hempel from Berlin took impressive before and after pictures of this patient. The patient has hereditary ataxia, a genetic disorder of the cerebellum that, among other things, causes balance and movement coordination disorders. Until the age of 30, the patient was able to play football and table tennis. As the disease progresses, she is now no longer able to climb stairs, inclines or slopes, and she also finds it difficult to sit. Although she can stand without orthoses, she can only walk unsteadily and with difficulty – as can be seen in the video.
In 2024, she was fitted with two KAFOs, each with a NEURO VARIO-SWING system knee joint and a NEURO SWING system ankle joint by FIOR & GENTZ. The video clearly shows that the patient is more confident when walking with her new orthoses, even on the line. Walking up and down hills and climbing stairs works right away, and she even feels more stable when sitting down. She says it was a case of “get in and go”. Now she is even playing table tennis again at a Parkinson's club.
