Replacing Feather Keys

Some of our system ankle joints have so-called feather keys with pin which are located inside the joint's upper part. In the following we describe how to proceed if you have to replace the feather keys with pin due to maintenance. 
You will find further information on the period of use of our system components in the maintenance plans.

Step 1/7

Remove the defect feather keys with pin by boring them out with a small drill.

Step 2/7

Clean the grooves of the joint's upper part thoroughly, otherwise the feather keys with pin cannot be mounted correctly. This is important, as incorrectly mounted feather keys with pin are very hard to remove.

Step 3/7

Place both feather keys with pin into the openings of the assembly/lamination dummy.

Step 4/7

Place the assembly/lamination dummy onto the joint's upper part in such a way that the feather keys with pin are inserted into the grooves.

Step 5/7

Press the assembly/lamination dummy to the joint's upper part in a vice with plain jaws until there is no opening left between them.

Step 6/7

Remove the assembly/lamination dummy. Press the feather keys with pin carefully to the joint's upper part in a vice with plain jaws until the feather keys with pin are flush with the joint's upper part.

Step 7/7

Mount the cover plate to the joint's upper part without adhering them. Press the joint's upper part to the cover plate as described in the instructions for use. Continue assembling the joint as usual.
