NEURO HiSWING R+ System Ankle Joint

Adaptive with Microprocessor-Controlled Hydraulics

The NEURO HiSWING R+ is the first electronic system ankle joint in orthotics – adaptive with microprocessor-controlled hydraulics. As with all system joints in the NEURO SWING product range, it is used to bring the patient into an upright position and improve the stability when walking and standing, e.g. in the case of a weakness or paralysis of the calf muscles (plantar flexors). Thanks to its R+ functionality (R+ stands for "reaction" and means improved reaction options), this system ankle joint can be used to react quickly and easily to changing situations, for example: walking uphill and downhill, changing heel heights by switching shoes or walking up and down stairs. The integrated sensors, electronics and hydraulics enable the patient to walk safely and as naturally as possible.

The alignment of the orthosis is customised to the patient's requirements and the basic position is set once in the Expert App by the orthotist. With Bluetooth, the patient can choose between three different modes in the User app and thus easily adapt to changing terrain. The NEURO HiSWING R+ system ankle joint offers safety and flexibility when standing and walking in every situation. The following three adjustment options are available:

  • Zero Mode: resetting the lower leg-to-plumb line angle to the basic position, e.g. to adjust to the angle of inclines or slopes, after switching shoes and after using the Relax or Stair mode
  • Relax Mode: for situations in which the orthosis is to be used as a free moving orthosis, e.g. to relax the foot while sitting
  • Stair Mode: adjusting the lower leg-to-plumb line angle when walking up and down stairs

The special feature: the Zero mode can also be activated without the app using a preselected gesture (e.g. foot rotation). If the user app is not available, the ankle joint angle can be adjusted using a control button on the system joint. If none of the three modes is active, the NEURO HiSWING R+ can be used like all other system ankle joints from the NEURO SWING product range.

Furthermore, the NEURO HiSWING R+ is equipped with a dynamic and adjustable dorsiflexion stop and plantar flexion stop. The stops are generated via spring units. The range of motion and spring force can be adjusted in both dorsiflexion and plantar flexion using the exchangeable, precompressed spring units. The system ankle joint adjustments do not influence each other. Therefore, they can be changed separately and independently.

The NEURO HiSWING R+ system ankle joint is also equipped with integrated noise reduction. This special feature minimises the clacking of the stops when walking. People with fast and long strides benefit from this function.
