Handing over the Orthosis
What should be checked while handing over the orthosis?
Handing over the orthosis is the final step after Producing the Orthosis and should therefore be documented as well as systematically structured.
During this work step, it will be checked if and to what extent the defined treatment goal has been achieved. In order to do so, the orthotist checks (1) the orthosis statically on the workbench (2), statically on the patient (3) and dynamically on the patient (4) and documents (5) the results.
Why do we recommend to perform and document this systematically processed work step?
The patient’s ability to stand and walk is already checked during the Physical Examination. And when Planning the Orthosis, using the Functional Elements of the Orthosis and joints to systemically compensate functional deficits is THE main concern as well. When Producing the Orthosis, these theoretical considerations culminate in a real device.
In order to learn from the experience of each and every treatment, this complex production process should be evaluated, analysed and rethought in the end. Every single treatment should be given the chance to achieve the best possible goal. Best possible meaning, in this case, to achieve the formerly defined and customised treatment goal spot-on.
Due to the planned, documented and rethought treatment, achieving the treatment goal is predictable, reproducible and calculable.
