NEURO TRONIC Added Functionality 2.0

We have added new features to the functional scope of the NEURO TRONIC knee joint system. Those are, specifically, the following two functions: Mid Stance Settings and Terminal Swing Settings.
Both functions are available for the old as well as the new multi-purpose device with Bluetooth and for the NEURO TRONIC Expert app.

Usually, changing the settings is not necessary if the orthosis alignment is ideal. However, due to particular physiological features, a specific gait pattern etc., changing the settings may be useful.

Mid Stance Settings

With this function, you can change the point in time when the system joint unlocks in mid stance. The earlier the point in time is chosen, the easier the system joint unlocks. This shortens the stance phase control period. The later the point in time is chosen, the less easier the system joint unlocks. This prolongs the stance phase control period.

Terminal Swing Settings

With this function, you can change the point in time when the system joint locks in terminal swing. The earlier the point in time is chosen, the earlier the system joint locks. If the system joint only locks after the patient has reached the extension stop during the extending movement, bouncing off is the consequence. This can be prevented if the system joint locks at the same (earlier) point in time.

The later the point in time is chosen, the later the system joint locks. If the system joint locks before the patient has even reached the extension stop during the extending movement, a rattling sound due to the system joint’s toothing is the consequence. This can be prevented if the system joint locks at the same (later) point in time.

That is, for example, interesting for patients who received a different treatment before and acquired a particular gait pattern as a result. Fact is, that other stance phase control systems lock when the leg is fully extended without taking the gait phase into consideration. In contrast, the NEURO TRONIC locks independently of the degree of extension as soon as the pre-acceleration of the tibia is finished. Its stance phase control comes into effect in terminal swing at the latest, even if the leg is not fully extended. This gait-related control mechanism is a crucial factor for the development of a harmonious gait pattern and provides a high level of security. However, if a patient reaches the extension stop too early during the gait phase, because of their previous treatment and the acquired gait pattern, bouncing off is the consequence with this control mechanism. Then, the leg is no longer fully extended when the system joint locks. With this menu item, you can accommodate the patient’s usual gait and coordinate the point in time of the locking in such a way that it matches the point in time the extension is reached. This way, the patient is gently guided towards a new and harmonious gait pattern.

In order to benefit from these new functions, you need to update the software of the multi-purpose device and/or the free app as well as the used controller(s). If the update is done, you can use the Added Functionality 2.0. On our website, you can already download the update.
