Summary: After a stroke, neurologically-based movement restrictions cause compensatory mechanisms which lead to a pathological gait. The N.A.P.® Gait Classification divides apoplexy patients into four gait types according to their knee and foot position during mid stance. A consideration of these gait types is helpful when it comes to planning orthotic and physiotherapeutic interventions. In order to ensure a successful neurological rehabilitation, orthoses have to meet certain criteria.
